Global Dialogue Collective focuses on advancing the quality and impact of dialogue, strengthening our capacity for self-reflection, critical thinking, and empathy, and bring these skills to others. We provide an international forum for mutual inspiration, support, challenge, and development.

Through periodic workshops, member-driven discussions, open forums, online engagement, experts sharing their innovations, and active exchanges, GDC curates an exciting dialogue-driven online environment. Each online encounter will be announced in a timely fashion on our social media channels and mailing list, describing the thematic focus of the gathering, as well as its format.

The following are examples of programs that GDC has hosted in the past, and will continue to evolve with you- our members’ input- in the future. Being a collective, we continue to experiment and refine these with your feedback and engagement. Community members help shape the agenda and serve both as experts and as learners.

These learning together sessions are free and open to all who are engaged with or simply curious about dialogue.

Peace Building Dialogues

Peacebuilding Dialogues program consists of context-inspired dialogue sessions that are designed to enhance understanding about a particular issue area, challenge, a problem, and to support practitioners working in a particular (professional) setting, and/or with distinct societal groups.

This program originated in the ‘Generative Dialogue on Peacebuilding’ sessions that brought together dialogue professionals active or interested in peacebuilding, conflict resolution or conflict transformation in all its different facets. In response to community members’ suggestions, we expanded the Peacebuilding Dialogues to encompass wider issue areas such as climate change, polarisation, global conflicts spilling over into local divisions, self-care and well-being practices – because we see ‘building peace’ as the overarching common denominator in all of these different contexts.

Inspired, in part, by David Bohm’s emphasis on the importance of the inner work involved in dialogue, i.e. watching our own thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations when our assumptions are challenged, we embrace this self-reflection as a way of making dialogue encounters more impactful.

GDC Café

GDC CAFÉ series is based on an embodied peer-coaching process that enables new learning and skillfulness to emerge from what we find challenging. Inspired by the Pro Action Café approach, this series invites practitioners to share their dilemmas, concerns, current challenges they are facing. Guided by expert facilitators, peer groups help these practitioners deepen their understanding and develop a more nuanced and reflective approach to their question, challenge, or project. The interactive process rotates with different groups, and advances through different questions and perspective shifts. The process is very engaging and insightful for all.

Practitioner Spotlight

‘Practitioner Spotlight’ gatherings feature a dialogue practitioner invited to share an aspect of their work (their approach, unique context of work, upcoming or released publications, etc.), with the intent for participants to benefit from this practitioner’s insights and reflections on the presented topic.

While there is a component of presentation involved in the Practitioner Spotlight series, we encourage our speakers to incorporate an interactive, exercise- or activity-based element into these online gatherings.

Leaders in Conversation

Imagine a dynamic forum where diverse dialogue practitioners and organizational leaders converge for an engaging collective interview and conversation. In these gatherings, leaders delve into their motivations, backgrounds, and the challenges they encounter in their work, exploring the “whys” and “hows” of their approaches. They share the lessons they’ve learned, their perspectives on the field and their view of emerging strategies and approaches.

These encounters seek to provide valuable insights into the application of dialogue across various contexts, fostering connections, inspiring the GDC community and expanding the collective repertoire of dialogue-based skills and practices.
